The prerequisites are a good grounding in the calculus of one variable from a mathematically rigorous point of view, together with some acquaintance with linear algebra. There are no discussion topics on this book yet.

This book is based on an honors course in advanced calculus that the authors gave in the 1960's. I don't think that you need to be a "will-be" mathematician or some kind of genius to understand this book like some comment says, because I managed to get much out of this book.

The foundational material, presented in the unstarred sections of Chapters 1 through 11, was normally covered, but different applications of this basic material were stressed from year to year, and the book therefore contains more material than was covered in any one year. I have completed reading Calculus by Apostol Vol 1 and 2 and reached nearly half-way through Baby Rudin. The present new edition should be very welcome to the younger generations of students, teachers and researchers in mathematics and natural sciences, not only as a standard text but also as a reference work.” W Kleinert Berlin An authorised reissue of the long out of print classic textbook, Advanced Calculus by the late Dr Lynn Loomis and Dr Shlomo Sternberg both of Harvard University has been a revered but hard to find textbook for the advanced calculus course for decades. The reader should be familiar with limit and continuity type arguments and have a certain amount of mathematical sophistication. I don't think that you need to be a "will-be" mathematician or some kind of genius to understand this book like some comment says, because I managed to get much out of this book.

The contents is fine, although less mathematically inclined readers (like myself) will find the book by R. C. Buck.

This book presents linear algebra (a chapter on generalities that hold for all vector spaces, one specializing to the finite dimensional case, later on one about scalar product spaces, and one for multilinear algebra) and multivariable calculus (the differential of maps between normed vector spaces, a quicky on existence and uniqueness theorems for differential equations, and integration of differential forms on manifolds) in a way that makes clear the underlying simplicity and coherence of the subjects.

Must read for all would-be analysts, geometers, Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2016. This book is self-contained and starts with the creation of basic tools using the completeness axiom. In my efforts to improve my understanding of maths, I bought this book. Unless one is exceptionally gifted and able to quickly assimilate abstract concepts, a solid course in one-variable real analysis is probably the minimal requirement for using this text (for example, the first 8 chapters of Rudin's Principles of Mathematical Analysis); the level of mathematical sophistication reached by the end of the book is such that it puts the student at a good spot to pursue graduate courses in modern analysis.

For individuals with a sound knowledge of the mechanics of one-variable calculus and an acquaintance with linear algebra.

The reader should also have some experience with partial derivatives. In overall plan the book divides roughly into a first half which develops the calculus (principally the differential calculus) in the setting of normed vector spaces, and a second half which deals with the calculus of differentiable manifolds. The material is structured to benefit those students whose interests lean toward either research in mathematics or its applications.
